Leather industry 1946-1985
« on: Monday 24 January 22 10:18 GMT (UK) »
Anyone have any info on this business. My father worked in Northampton and I would like some more information or pointers to go in the right direction.
Thanks

Hi Beaver
Sorry I don't have any info on the industry but coincidentally I watched Inside the Factory last night.

It was the episode about Doc Martin boots made in Northamptonshire.

It was only on last week so you could get it on iplayer.

Very interesting and explained a lot, especially many frequently used terms/expressions, which are still in use today, which come from the shoe making industry.

Hi. Funnily enough I watched that programme too (not my usual cup of tea!) hoping to learn something useful!
My dad was out in India and I am assuming he was sourcing leather.
I went to his factory several times when I was a kid in Nothampton.
At least I know where I got my obsession with buying shoes!
Thanks anyway

Thanks for that. Yes I did know about the museum but it has been closed for ages. Glad to hear it's re-opened, I will try and take a trip down to Northampton. Cheers
