Corp. Josh Rice. 2nd Battalion 35th Regiment of Foot. Waterloo 1815
« on: Thursday 27 January 22 10:28 GMT (UK) »
Morning,

Aware that there are a few posted regarding the 35th but as they are quite old I hope there is no objection to me starting a new one.

I am researching Corp. Josh Rice and whilst I can confirm he was at Waterloo (Serving under Capt. A.McDonald) I have been unable to find anything else (Service No/record etc) and struggling to gain any traction at all. My search is frustrated further by the fact that there is Private Josh Rice who also served at Waterloo and it is his records that appear more readily on the usual sites.

I'd welcome any guidance or information that would help me get my research off the ground.

Regards, and thanks in advance

This one served in the 35th at Waterloo and was a corporal at the time: Joseph Rice, from Wotton Under Edge:

ShaunJ,

That's amazing thank you, if its not giving too much away - can I ask how you found this record and made the leap from Josh (his name on the Waterloo records) to Joseph.

Thanks again

Josh - a common abbreviation for Joseph in military records at that time. Like this one - he's on the right hand page:

There's a date of death: 21.9/55 ?

His Waterloo medal was on sale at 'Dixons medals' in 1998.
