Do you have a father’s name from the marriage certificates?

That’s good. Presumably the right couple then.

I now have the marriage certificate for Thomas Maguire and Catherine Duffy.  I had obviously been down a rabbit hole!

Thomas married at St Lawrence Catholic Church Ampleforth on 29th April 1878.  He was a Bachelor, age 50 and a labourer from Gilling, his father was called Phillip Maguire also a Labourer

He married Catherine Duffy age 48 who was a widow living in Helmsley and the daughter of William Maguire a labourer

My original thoughts was that a Thomas Maguire born about 1834 who married Catherine Raftree (or Rafferty) on 21 July 1861 at Scarborough St Peter RC Their witnesses were John Broghan and Brigit O'Neil

My premise was that he had then remarried

I seem to have got two different families and I am interested in the ones that ended up in Scarborough Maguire and Raftree

Can anyone shed any light please?

Many thanks

Is this the family you are interested in? Do you still think the children are from two different mothers?
I am unsure with the latest post about the certificate who you are following. Sorry.

Yes this is still the family

In my post there were two Catherines - Raftree (or Rafferty) and Dunn both married to a Thomas Maguire

The marriage certificate I obtained is from the Duffy marriage and because he was a bachelor and she a widow aged 48, I doubt that the children I have found on various census documents are from Catherine Dunn or even this Thomas Maguire

However in the 1881 census when they are definitely at Cow House Bank, Helmsley, there are 2 children and it says they are son and daughter of Thomas Maguire, as though they were from a different family

I saw that but wondered if they were noted as such because they were over the page. :-\

So Catherine Maguire/Duffy/Maguire is not yours. Have you found that Thomas and Catherine in censuses?

Also now might all the children be from one marriage?
