LLANBEBLIG HAYDEN
« on: Friday 28 January 22 21:40 GMT (UK) »
Henry Hayden 1774-1848; Henry Samuel Hayden 1805-1860; George Hayden 1849-1930.

Does anybody know anything about this family? Henry married Sarah Roberts in 1802. Henry Samuel married Sarah Owen in 1833, both marriages in Llanbeblig. There's precious little on Find My Past. Is anybody already researching this name please?

What are you looking for?
Do you have them in censuses?

There are quite o few Haydens in LLanbeblig over the years

Henry Samuel is an organist on 1841. I;ve found this  I wonder if she was one of his sisters and he followed in his father's footsteps. Illustrious connections alledged here!

Henry Samuel is later described as organist at St Mary's Church, Caernarfon

Henry Samuel, Sarah Elizabeth and her sister Frances, with whom she is living in 1891, are indeed all children of Henry Hayden, organist, and wife Sarah. The sisters' state place of birth as St Asaph on censues, and they and Henry S are all baptised there - along with quite a few siblings

The censuses are readily available so perhaps you don’t need them.

However, Henry S and Sarah are here in 1851 2516 /107/22 with eight children so lots for you to investigate.

Thank you for all your replies. I tried the censuses via Find My past and had little success. Perhaps I need to look a little harder. I have the 1851 census for Henry Samuel and his family but nothing else. I have read, in an earlier post on here, that the parish records for Llanbeblig are not fully available on FindMyPast but have gleaned some information from there. The newspaper cutting is remarkable and I'll certainly be following up that one. The family ended up in Manchester with George Hayden and his son Reginald Griffith Hayden both ministers in the Church of England. Thanks again

Sarah Elizabeth (Henry Samuel's sister) isn't always easy to spot on censuses as St Asaph gets mangled, but she's usually in Rugby

Short tribute to HS Hayden here: https://newspapers.library.wales/view/4510138/4510143/21/

George's brothers all did fairly well for themselves

Henry Griffith also went into the clergy
Robert was a surgeon-major in the army
William was another organist, based in Caernarvon but died in Freedom, Pennsylvania
Charles - ship's captain, died New York
Lewelyn was also an army medic, died Ceylon

I got confused by a newspaper report which described Lewelyn as HS's 8th son, but I think it should be 8th child.

This is fantastic, thank you very much. I can see I have a fair bit of homework to do now. I'll get into our local library on Monday and get stuck into the censuses and newspaper archive to see what else I can find. I don't have any subscriptions to the various useful sites.
