George T. Ingarfell/Ingarfill - William Ingarfield Branch Ancestor
« on: Tuesday 01 February 22 01:23 GMT (UK) »
Seeking any scraps of information on the parents of "George Thomas Ingarfell/Ingarfill/Ingerfill", born est. 1775, who passed away in Kent/Bromley around March 1858.

His son "George Ingarfill" (occupation Sawyer) married "Harriet Sawyer". Children : John, William 1, Lennas, Elizabeth, Edward, Caroline.

Our Ingarfield branch is descended from William Ingarfield 1, the grandson of "George Thomas Ingarfell/Ingarfill". George Thomas Ingarfill is as far back as I have been able to trace our family surname INGARFIELD.

*****************************************************************************

THE WILLIAM INGARFIELD BRANCH (UK - CANADA)
"William Ingarfill 1" & "Amelia Wells" had their first child Barbara Ingerfield in Knockholt. The majority of their children were born in Plumstead (George Ingerfield, William Edward Ingerfield 2, Caroline A Ingerfield, and Herbert J Ingerfield).
Their last 2 children, Alfred Ingarfield & Ernest Ingarfield, were born in Reading Berkshire.
I assume this is where William 1 passed away, but haven't been able to find the death record.

"William Ingarfield 2" born 1865 in Plumstead, married "Bridget Morris" who passed away quite young at 31 years.

They had two sons "John William Ingarfield" (b. 1889) & "William Ingarfield 3"  was born in Stepney, England Oct 23, 1892.

"William Ingarfield 3" left Liverpool on "The Victorian" to Quebec, Canada at the age of 20. His mother Bridget Morris had died when he was 3 years old, and his stepmother Lizzie Wiltshire died when he was 19, prior to his departure. Upon arrival in Quebec, he immediately travelled to Toronto, and enlisted in the Canadian Over-Seas Expeditionary Force (CEF). This resulted in a significant time in the Canadian military during WW1. William Ingarfield 3's only brother "John William Ingarfield" passed away at the age of 29 in Greece, fighting in WW1, without any children.

Upon his return to Canada, he and Edna Gertrude Cochrane had 4 sons - * Ingarfield (b. 1927), * Ingarfield (b. 1929), * Ingarfield (b. 1930), & * Ingarfield (b. 1937).

  Welcome to RootsChat!
I have had a quick look, without much success - cleverer people may come along later. Where did you get the information about his burial? The only burial I have found in that area in 1858 is of an infant.

I have found some Ingerfields in the late 1600s in Cowden, and followed them forwards, but no llink found to George Thomas, born c. 1775. There is a Thomas, son of Thomas and Mary, bap 1784 Speldhurst.

Welcome from me too!

The death registration of George Thomas INGARFELL at Bromley Mar qtr 1858 (2a/163) appears on FreeBMD, however I can't find the equivalent death on the GRO so not sure of the age at death. As Top-of-the-hill says, there is a burial at St Mary's, Cray (10 Jan 1858) of a George INGARFELL aged approx 1 year - I suspect this is the death registered in Mar qtr.

There is a baptism at Knockholt 3rd March 1805 (born December 1804) for a George Ingarfill - His parents are William and Elizabeth.  Presumably this is the George that married Harriett.  :-\

Burial at Knockholt for this George is 1st January 1880 - George Ingarfil age 74 - It is noted alongside this entry that George was born Dec 31st 1804 and died 26 December 1879
His abode is given as Brixton
