The Endeavour was scuttled by British troops along with several other ships on 4 August 1778 as part of an effort to block the entrance to Narraganset Bay.  Gggg-grandpa John Ware enlisted on 3 July 1778 and his unit marched from Maine to Providence on 20 August, too late to save the Endeavour or, indeed, to even participate in the Battle of Rhode Island.
