Cumberland House Grammar School 1920's
« on: Friday 04 February 22 11:25 GMT (UK) »
I would appreciate it if anyone can help with the following.
On my father's army service he states his last school was Cumberland House Grammar which he left 1928.  He was living at the time in Tooting but the school of course could have been anywhere in London.  I have looked everywhere on Google for mention of this school with no luck so am hoping fresh eyes may be able to come up with some information.
Thanks

Why restricted to London area?

Did he have family connection to other parts of the country?

Hi
Only thing I can see is Plaistow Grammer school which opened in 1926.
One of it's houses was Cumberland House.

Bit of a jaunt from Tooting though.

thank you both for your replies.
Pauline - I don't think he would have been sent away to school as it was quite a large modest income family - but who knows?
I did look at the Plaistow school but feel he would have put that in answer to the question plus it did not become a grammar school until 1945 so I did dismiss that as an option.

There was a private Catholic school named Cumberland House in Raynes Park, mentioned in newspapers in the 1930's. Not very far from Tooting. But whether this was a junior school or a secondary school is not clear.

thank you so much Shaun I think you've got it.  My father's family were very Catholic & as you say Raynes Park is not so far from Tooting.  So I'm off now to check it out.
Best wishes
Sonia
