We can work round it  ;) it is easier if there is just one thread or linked but no  worries.
I agree with the numbers of Hamons from Jersey.
We do know though that Thomas and Caroline’s family are found in various records.

I haven’t reread the threads but do you have anything with James Alpheus’  father’s name e.g.marriage.
Maybe he is not of that family.

I'm not sure what you mean exactly.  But I don't have any information about James father.  My grandfather is James 2nd son, Phillip Thomas, the same name as my father.  The use of the name Thomas makes me think that Thomas Hamon could possibly be his father.

When James married - was it Delia Carr - were his parents mentioned on the record?
When James died - were his parents mentioned on that record?

I am just wondering if he has been connected to Thomas and Caroline by mistake . He is not with them on their immigration record and perhaps those searching have assumed that is the correct family.

Added
I realise I got this wrong - he is with them in 1849 - sorry.

Had another quick look - he is not with that family in 1850  :-\ that’s what puzzled me.

Which makes no sense as he was a child.

I posted this on one of your threads - 1860 census - no James either but several US born children. Is this the same Thomas and Caroline from 1850?

It’s a shame that the marriage for James Alpheus Hamon to Delia Carr has not been found  ???

I wonder if James middle name ALPHEUS has some significance. There doesn’t seem to be any James Hamon baptised with that middle name in Jersey that I can see

You mention
"my grandfather is James 2nd son, Phillip Thomas, the same name as my father"
There was this baptism posted earlier on this thread 18 April 1848 parish of St John, son of
Philippe Hamon and Rachel Bisson, his father is a fisherman/seaman 1851/61 census and James is with the family in Jersey (details of census posted)

I may have missed it on the thread - is it confirmed that your James Hamon definitely emigrated in year 1849?

I think Ladyhawk makes a very good point re the birth of James.

Is there anything in his obituary which gives some history?

New York began statewide registration of births, marriages, and deaths ("vital records") in 1880-81, under supervision of the State and local boards of health

Statewide registration of births began in 1905 in California with general compliance by 1920.
