Sandra - how do you do it!! Those are amazing finds.

So if she is one of those - and it was 1854, as per the census, then if she did marry it would have been in America. Obvious thing to say I know.
Places of interest;
Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.

Census are consistent for the first born Michael Carr - 1859 New York - starting with the 1860 San Francisco District 1, San Francisco, California.
This is why it looks possible the couple could have married in New York.

Thomas Carr 26 Born Ireland.
Bridget Carr 26  Born Ireland.
Michael Carr 1 born New York.

Yes I found that census and the burials of Thomas, together with one of the couples' sons - and Bridget, on Find a Grave.

Not found a marriage, nor baptisms of the children.

Have you checked 1900 & 1910 U.S. census to see when Bridget was supposed to have arrived in America? When & where did her husband Thomas die?

Thomas died in San Francisco, CA, on 23 Feb 1871 and is buried nearby. find a grave index lists County Galway as his birth area in 1833.

So, after looking at American census records and death records - it seems they are likely to have married in Ireland as Thomas and Bridget are together in San Francisco, certainly by 1860 - in addition their probable first child, aged 1 month, born in America, is with them.

On a balance of probability they married and travelled out together.

I see also, from Thomas's death record in 1871 in San Francisco - he was born in County Galway.

So we are looking for a marriage in Galway (supposition of course!) in the mid to late 1850s.

Haven't spotted one yet - but will resume a hunt later.

I cannot thank you enough for this work!!!  Really!!!  I have been at this for a long while with no results and then a good friend who is very active on this board sent me in this direction .. VERY thankful!!

After the failure of the 1847 law, no marriages were recorded by the State of New York between 1850 and 1880 though some cities (including Albany, Buffalo, Yonkers) started recording marriages in the 1870s. Some records for this period are available in the following Findmypast collection
