Interestingly, the family tree on Ancestry lists 7 children born to Robert and Marion. But there's a child not included on the family tree. Perhaps the tree owner isn't aware of Bertram Knight Edley (born 1878).

Bertram Knight, Mabel Annie & William Montague were all born/bapt. at St Paul's church, Kandy. I saw a list of 7 children, Bertam was not one of them.

Can you advise the full names of S.W. Gane - Tea Planter manager Silverhill, Ceylon, about 1880 & G.J.Edley - Tea Planter manager, Silverhill, 1870. Was Robert Edley, the son of G.J. Edley.

Spencer Walter Gane, born 1851, was the brother of Ann Eliza and Marion Ann. June 20th 1861 Allen's India report the death of Mary Edley, aged 54, widow of J. Edley, Ceylon. I am also looking for confirmation of Robert Edley being born 22.07.1826 in Colombo, Ceylon and that he became the husband of Marion Gane on 30.03.1864 in Kandy. Some records state that Robert was born in England.

There's a Robert Edley army birth in Ceylon in 1836.  The timing would fit with Joseph's marriage to Mary in 1835 (also registered by the army, in Ceylon).

The Ancestry family tree I mentioned yesterday includes fairly comprehensive details for the Gane and Edley families. Obviously family trees aren't always accurate, but this particular tree looks like it's had some effort put into it. And it does have family photos.

The tree has Robert Edley's father as born in Leicestershire, and a soldier in the British Army. Think the wife's name was Mary. The tree also has son Robert born in India in 1836, if memory serves.

Lance - do you have access to Ancestry? If so, this family tree may answer some of your research questions. Are you descended from Robert and Marion? Or helping a friend with their research?
