In December 1917, HMS Alarm had moved to the Mediterranean Fleet, joining the 5th Destroyer Flotilla. On the night of the 22/23 April 1918, HMS with 5 other destroyers were in action in the Straits of Otranto, not far from Brindisi. See image below for Bridisi in relation to the Straits.

The uniform is not correct for a Leading Telegraphist.
Would expect a junior rating uniform:

The men in the photo are commissioned officers (with stripes on their cuffs) or some may be petty officers.

tonepad,

thank you for that,

I am now confused , it is defiantly Henry Arnold Martin on the right, and the place and time are correct ,
the medal I have is 1914-1918 , and has the above information that I started My listing with around the edge .

Military
6th Nov 1915 • Sea service
Name Martin, Henry Arnold Service Number: Z/3846 RNVR Division: London Date of Birth: 18 July 1890 Date.
just trying to think why He would have the wrong uniform on ?

other picture is Him in 1916 , wireless class. and Radio communications, 1916 as well.

He was in the wavy navy during the 2nd war.x

According to his service record he was only promoted to Leading Telegraphist on 9 April 1918. Unfortunately his service record doesn't list the ships he served on, only that he was on the books of President IV, which was the accounting base for men serving with the Coastguard and the Reserve. His initial deployment seems to have been to the Kingsdown WT station in Northern Ireland in 1916, and I'm trying to decide whether the line in brackets after his transfer to the books of President IV simply indicates that he continued in service at Kingsdown for the duration of the war. That, together with the mismatch in uniform noted earlier, suggests to me that the man in the photo may not be who you think he is.

If you don't already have it, his brief service record can currently be downloaded for free from the National Archives after first registering an account.
