Does anyone know if records held by Houses of Correction, kept more detailed information re the people they had staying? I have a copy of the transcribed 1841 Census for Beverley, St. Mary's which has just Charles Sampson and age 20 which is very close to his 18 years, and the hand written copy has him as a soldier, which I don't know about, so would like to identify this young man as either the one I need, or to dispel. If it is the right family, his late father was the Rector of Leven, Rev. George Sampson who died at Bridlington in September of 1839

I doubt this is him - shown as not born in county.

I agree, this Charles was born in Essex and went on to serve in India.

It doesn't help with your query but I wonder if you have seen this from the newspaper in 1861.
