Just another query re the Rogby family.

Phillis Rogby married Robert Marris (has Morris in freereg) in 1818.  Because there are so many of the same name in the family; I just was hoping to make sure I have the right 'Phillis'.
Would be important to have her father's name correct.    It will either be George Rogby or John Rogby.  Any help would be appreciated.  :-)

Witnesses (three) to the marriage are Henry Rogby, Jane Rogby, and Mary Rogby.
That may lead you to the correct family?

The only likely Phillis Rogby baptism I can see is in 1794, daughter of John and Elizabeth.

There is a burial in 1858 for a Phillis Marris which would match the 1794 birth date.

Thanks Neale.  Yes, pretty convinced now that this 'Phillis' is John and Elisabeth's daughter. :-)

While we are on the Rogby family, my George Rogby married Sarah Peck 11 July 1786 in Wisbech.  I cannot find a reliable source for her birth.  Some on Ancestry have her as being born in Middlesex 2 December 1786; parents John Peck and Ann (possibly Seager).  Any leads to her baptism or parents would be terrific.

I doubt she was born in December 1786 if she married in July 1786.  ;D

Do you know when she died - there are 2 possibilities at Wisbech that I can see, possibly more:

10 Jan 1819 aged 53 (so born c1766) of Ship Lane
13 March 1828 aged 66 (born c 1762) at the workhouse

I assume you have seen the death notice for George?

"On Wednesday se'nnight died, Mr. George Rogby, hairdresser, a Sergeant in the Wisbech, &c. volunteer corps. And on Sunday evening his remains were interred with military honours."

No I hadn't seen this.  How fab.  I'm impressed that he was a Sergeant and "his remains interred with military honours".  Wait til I tell the others.
Poor guy, - had 6 daughters and no sons.  Must have been taken a toll on poor Sarah trying to produce a son for him!   It's all terribly wonderful having more information.  Tks so much.

I had pursued this question before and settled on the death date as 10th Jan 1819 in Ship Lane.
(Am so sorry for the wrong approx. date given for her birth.  I must be more careful.)

I note on the marriage that Michael Cole and Elizabeth Rogby were the two witnesses.
Elisabeth Cole had married George's brother John Rogby and Michael would have been the brother.  So it would seem that Sarah Peck was not represented by her family at the wedding.  So seems she could have been from out of town.  Interesting.  Maybe that is her in Middlesex, but will need to do some more work on it.
