Capt. James Hamon, marine reporter at Meigg's wharf, San Francisco, and
Mr. M. R. Carr, came over from the city and went direct to the residence of Mrs. Garrity at old Sausalito, where they tendered her charming and pretty daughter, Miss Maggie, a birthday surprise party" (Mr. M.R. Carr is Michael Carr, the brother of James wife Delia Carr)

Sausalito News - September - 1888
"HE HAMON CHRISTENING PARTY.
On Sunday evening, the 26th ult., the many friends of
Captain and Mrs. James Hamon, of the yacht Virginia, assembled at their San Francisco residence to attend the christening of their daughter, Mary Mabel, whose birth was announced in the last issue of the News. The spacious parlors were neatly deorated with flowers and evergreens, and from the chandeliers, which were tastefully trimmed with smilax, depended beautiful hanging baskets. An amateur orchestra, of friends of the Captain entertained the guests with choice selections, and furnished music for dancing throughout the evening. A most enjoyable time was spent, by the assembled guests; recitations, vocal and instrumental music making up a most delightful programme for the occasion. At 11 o'clock supper was announced, and the guests were ushered into the dining hall, where an elegant repast was spread. After doing justice to the wines and viands, the guests again adjourned to the parlors and not till long after midnight did they take leave of the host and hostess, with best wishes for Mary Mabel. Among those present were Captain and Mrs. Hamon, Mr. and Mrs. John McGowan, Mr. and Mrs. J. Prince, Mrs. Fischer; Misses Ella and Mary Aitken, Kate and Hanna McGowan, Maggie Garrity, Emma Ryan, Maggie Richard, May McGowan, May Fischer; Messrs. Henry McGowan, Chas. Pease, Harry Malatesta, J. Richards, James McGowan, Andrew Williams, Walter Mitchell, Michael and Phil. Carr, and Master Alphus and
Phililp Hamon."
