Does his 1954 marriage show him as a widower or divorcee?  I note he was b West Calder Scotland

Any children born to the first marriage?   If so - did they live in Scotland or Ireland?

If Scotland - their marriage or death certs will give their mothers name & maiden name

Larne Times, Thursday, July 1, 1953.
BENSON—June 29, 1953, suddenly, at her residence, 2 New Estate, Woodburn, Carrickfergus, Rose, dearly-loved wife of William Pollock Benson, and loved daughter Mary and the late Hugh Manson, 4 Portland Road. Larne. Interred Wednesday, July 1, Larne Cemetery.

I've tidied up the death notice that MaureeninNY found.
GRONI's website doesn't seem to be working at the moment so I was unable to find Rose's age when she died and the date/district of marriage (if in N.I.). Carrickfergus (it's all one word) is in Larne registration district.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!
