Janet BAGNET - Seeking baptismal entry please (c.1750-1760)
« on: Tuesday 15 February 22 23:38 GMT (UK) »
I am seeking evidence please of the baptism and/or birth of the following person:

Janet (or Jane) BAGNET - Born sometime between 1750 & 1760. Wife of William CURL (or CURLL) (born at Norham, Northumberland). Married at Wooler on 28th May, 1776.

I have searched on familysearch.org without result & am unsure where to search again?

Thank you, cheers,
Rob

I cannot see the surname Bagnet anywhere in Northumberland, or Scottish borders, so it is possible you need to consider alternative spellings.
For example….
Have you considered this Jane BIGNETT?

Looking at that BIGGINET family of Wooler, going to earlier records, their name changes between BAGNET to BAGONET and BIGGINET. It makes me think it might well be the family you are looking for.

I wonder if it was originally a French name, and was Anglicised?

Ancestry has the William Bagonit marriage to Ann Nicholson on 6 Feb 1740.

At this time, the old Julian calendar was still in use. So 1740 is the Julian date, and 1741 is the Gregorian date.
