Just to update. Checked ancestry today and my father now only has Lancashire as a Communitie the other 3 have disappeared 😕.  Obviously there was no connection to these groups in the first place.

Are you sure as Ancestry only updates these once a year.

To find when your ethnicity info was last updated, go to you ethnicity and you should see the date of the last update at the bottom of the section.

I'm sure 3 have disappeared just 1 now.
He only had the results in November and there's been no update other than the communities.

In the details of ethnicity, it should show a date at the bottom of the details. If it's in blue you should be able to click on it. This will give the date of the  last update.

I've marked mine in red on this snip

My results say Sept 2021 my father's is blank. A few days ago his were updated to include South West Central Italy as of today they've gone, just Lancashire remains. I wonder if others have lost some communities too?

I googled to see if others have had similar experiences. They have. It seems ancestry have been allocating communities and then removing them the same day, or removing communities that people have had for months. Apologies if I've derailed the post but at least it shows these communities with no known connection are probably false.

What you say is probably in cases where they have been tested less than a year previously.

Why would that matter to estimates? The posts I have read are from the past day. So why have ancestry been allocating these communities then removing them??

I think you might have to ask Ancestry. None of the kits that I have access to have the problem that you have described.  It could be that as they might be newish tests (less than a year) , they are still running their matching/ethnicity programs on them.

My ethnicity estimate changes each September but I treated them with a pinch of salt. My communities are a  better match with my tree.
