Going back to your reply #2 - How could Thomas Richards have died in Whitchurch 1888 when he was living in Llanfoist?

As has been shown here - other peoples family trees are not always reliable. The only safe way is to do your own research.   The tree I looked at has Harriet as Morris & marriage 1855.  You have her as Price married 1855

Where is there a marriage to either of those names in 1855 on freebmd??

I have to say I am surprised at the inaccuracy given she was your great grandmother.  Where is she in  1871?  What is her fathers name & occupation on the 1880 marriage cert?

Hello Carole.
Sorry about the inaccuracies, the information i gleaned came from Familytree and Freecen which has the 1871 census for Whitchurch, Familyseach has trees listed for the Richards family.
I have the marriage cert for Thomas Williams and Mary Jane Richards 1880 and iut shows that Mary Jane father is Thomas Richards a labourer. I turned to Roots chat to get some clarity on the family, whilst i now have chapter and verse on the Williams side, i had nothing on Mary Jane Richards and have only just started to research her.

Mary Jane's parents were indeed a Thomas and Harriet and her birth reg. shows mmn Price.

Thomas Williams married Harriet Price in Dec.qtr.1847 Pontypool.

Census' show he was bc.1812-1817 'On Sea' (with Plymouth added in 1881 when in Llanover).  Harriet bc.1821 High Littleton, Somerset).  Can't find family 1851 census but in 1871 Mary aged 9 is with them.

You are going to need the marriage certificate between Thomas and Harriet (1847) as just found them in 1851 in Trevethin - their ages vary greatly throughout the census (in 1851 he says born 1819 in Somerset).

To enable you to try and trace him before his marriage you need his fathers name.   However, with all the inconsistencies re. age and birthplace, not to mention the common surname, don't think it will be easy.

Just found transcription of marriage on FindMyPast - Thomas' surname shown as Richard (?) - he is shown as son of Thomas and Harriet Price is daughter of a George Price.  They married 7/11/1847 Abersychan, Monmouthshire.  Alas, no occupations, status, witnesses or addresses given on the transcript.

Abersychan seems to make sense as it is only a stones throw from Blaenafon.
Thank you once again for your in-put
