parents for John Greenfield b.1839 Dudley

Hi all,
I would like to request a look up of John Greenfield (b.1839 in Dudley) to try and find out about his parents and family. John Greenfield was born in Netherton, an area of Dudley, and went on lto marry Eliza Hooper (1840-1872) in 1859. He remarried to a Charlotte after his wife's death. His date of death is not known, being somewhere between 1881 and 1894. John and Eliza had three children; Martha Maria (1864-?), Nora (1868-?) and Eliza Ann (1872-1959).

The marriage to Eliza Hooper states his father is Joseph Greenfield occ Clerk

There is only one John Greenfield born c1839 in Dudley who comes up in the Censuses and he is the son of Maria Greenfield. In 1841 he is in the Workhouse with his mother, in 1851 he is with his uncle William Greenfield.

John was born 1838 and baptised 27 March 1842. According to FindMyPast and FreeBMD his birth was registered Dec 1838 Dudley vol 18 p229 but I cannot find this on the GRO site

Then a Maria Greenfield married a Joseph Beard in Dudley on 2 May 1842.

So a Joseph MAY have been John's Real father - but more likely was his stepfather.

That seems to explain a lot as to why I was not able to find out anything about John. Do we know anything about Maria Greenfield, John's mother, as, if he was illegitimate, he seems to have put down his stepfather , Joseph, as his father with the surname changed to his own, Greenfield, which he got from Maria.
