Marriage Banns Slingsby
« on: Tuesday 22 February 22 13:12 GMT (UK) »
Hello all,
am just needing a little guidance if possible, I am trying to find the name of my ancestor's father, there are several likely candidates on family search so hoping a name may be on banns.
Ancestor William Freer born either 1793 to 1796 in Amotherby (Depending which census you read)
Married in Slingsby 1823 with banns on 13 April to Elizabeth Champlin.
I found the dates for the banns on family search but no image so actually wondering if fathers were included at that time.
Any help gratefully received.
Thank you for your time.

FindMy Past has images of banns and a marriage record, but the only clue to family is that one of the witnesses was Richard Champlin.

The marriage, image on FindMyPast, was 3 May 1823 at Weaverthorpe.  William was a widower and Elizabeth was a spinster - she signs as ChamAplinG.  One of the witnesses was Richard Champlin.
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Thank you very much both of you.
There seem to be trees which include both him and Elizabeth on Ancestry which name his father as Thomas but on family search there are 2 other candidates a George and a James.
I will see if I can gather some more info.
Thanks again for checking

William Freer was a widower at his marriage to Elizabeth Champlin in 1823.

There is a marriage in 1815 at Norton by Malton, William Freer and Ann Storrey. The following year Ann Freer age 21 dies in Slingsby, abode Norton.

One of the witnesses at the Freer-Storrey marriage was Margaret Freer, so possibly his mother or sister?

ADDED:
William and Elizabeth Freer, abode Slingsby had a daughter Margaret baptised August 24th 1823.

In the 1841 census at Amotherby there are James and Margaret Freer both 75.
