Mary Wilcox Marriage Record Image Look Up?
« on: Tuesday 22 February 22 21:24 GMT (UK) »
Hi everyone,

I'm wondering if someone would be able to get a copy of Mary Wilcox's marriage record.  Family Search says they have a copy but that I have to either:

To view these images do one of the following:

Access the site at a family history center.
Access the site at an affiliate library.

Unfortunately, I don't live near either of these.  I'm trying to find the names of her father and her husband's father.

Here is the record information:

Digital Folder Number
   008095471
Image Number
   00376
Collection Information
England, Herefordshire Bishop's Transcripts, 1583-1898

Thank you for taking the time to read this.
Rosalie

If the marriage took place before 1.7.1837 - fathers names were not shown

I wondered about that.  I was hoping maybe they might be a witness.  There seems to be confusion about the husband's parentage.

The marriage took place in 1807 in Bromyard, Herefordshire.

Name   Thomas Smith
Spouse's Name   Mary Wilcox
Marriage Date   13 Oct 1807
Marriage Place   Bromyard, Herefordshire, England, United Kingdom

Unfortunately - marriage entries for that period contain very little really useful info which may help to advance your research.  This is a rough guide to what you can expect.
Fathers names were not shown on marriage entries prior to 1.7.1837 which is the date when Civil Registration was introduced.  Mothers names are never shown on English marriage certs
Occupations were not shown

All you will get will be on the lines of the following - some of which you may already know

Names, date and venue

Spinster/bachelor - or widow/widower
Age = Full (over 21yrs) or Minor (under 21yrs)
Of this parish (OTP) - does not necessarily mean they were both born in that parish - just that they satisfied the short residential qualifying time required to enable them to marry there (approx 3wks)

The name and signature of the person marrying them plus the signatures of the 2 witnesses (occasionally more than 2 witnesses but not usual)

Census Information is Crown Copyright, from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk
Carlin (Ireland & Liverpool) Doughty & Wright (Liverpool) Dick & Park (Scotland & Liverpool)

Thanks for this.  It will be helpful going forward. :-)

The witnesses might give me a clue.  Maybe a brother or sister that helps confirm who the parents are?
