Another Charles CLAPHAM 1774-?
« on: Saturday 26 February 22 23:40 GMT (UK) »
This Charles was a son of Charles CLAPHAM 1740-1799 (subject of another post) and his second wife Sarah WILKINSON who were married in Leeds in 1773.

Believe he married Eliza PYKE in Leeds in 1798. Some trees on Ancestry also have this Charles as marrying Elizabeth Ann CHADWICK in 1839. In that marriage he was a widower and his father was Charles CLAPHAM an innkeeper, so a possibility. The signatures look similar. The Charles who married EAC died in 1848 in Wakefield.

A Charles and Eliza CLAPHAM were witnesses at the marriage of John WHITAKER and Sarah CLAPHAM in Leeds in 1801. Could this Sarah be Charles' sister born 1778 in Leeds. Some trees on Ancestry have this Sarah marrying a William RHODES.

A John WHITAKER was one of the witnesses at the marriage of Fenton MOOREHOUSE to Frances CLAPHAM at Leeds in 1807. Could this Frances also be Charles' sister born 1786 in Leeds. Fenton MOOREHOUSE appears to have died in 1809.

There was also a brother John CLAPHAM born 1780 in Leeds. Have not found anything on him as yet. Not the John who married Martha PEELE in 1801.

Anyone come across these people?

Any thoughts please.

Thanks

Further to above

From the Records of Removal of Graves and Tombstones on Ancestry along with Charles in 1848 there is a Sarah in 1819 and Betty in 1834.

Eliza was also known as Betty in a couple on trees online. Burials have her as wife of Charles and so would appear to be Charles' first wife. Two children Eliza in 1799 and Sarah Pitt in 1800.

Sarah was 76 in 1819 and is quite possibly Charles 1740-1799 second wife nee WILKINSON.
