Well done Trish  :)

Many thanks to all of you for all the help so far.

Chritianne Huffer on left and Joan Nicholl on right would be visitors to the house. I have no names for possible owners of the house.

Many thanks

Peter

If you look for Christiane on the 1939 register you will find her listed as resident there  :)

Good morning,

It's the home of Lord Theodore Agnew, a Tory peer. The whole estate amounts to about 1800 acres.

Good evening,

A little further information;

Originally called Somerton House it was designed and built for one J Husband. No further info on him.

In 1824 the estate was purchased by Joseph Hume esq MP from the heirs of Sir Phillip Stephens. Still to research him. Joseph renamed the house Burnley Hall after his wife, Marie Burnley.

The grounds were later greatly improved by J B Huntington esq. I have been unable to find whether he was a later owner.

The stables are at Manor Farm which is about 1/4 mile east of the house.

The house was unoccupied when Lord Agnew purchased it.

Added; Sir Phillip Stephens was very big in the admiralty, knew Capt James Cook and sent him off on his voyages. His family members had all predeceased him so he left his estate to his SiL Viscount Ranalegh.
