John Wilson 1792
« on: Monday 28 February 22 18:04 GMT (UK) »
On 2nd January 1831, in Cambridge, John Wilson married Mary Ann Cooper.
In the 1841/51/61 census his occupation is recorded as  - Miller - his birthplace Oakington, and his date of birth around 1792.

Can anyone see his birth and the occupation of his father?

His Son, Gson, and GGson were all Millers.

Bob - firstly - I think you mean his birth is abt 1792, and you may want to amend your title and message.

A John Wilson was baptised on 28 May 1792 in Oakington - father Joseph, mother Alice.

(transcribed record from Find My Past - no occupation shown for father).

Oh good - I see you have now changed the approx birth year in your title and message.

A Joseph Wilson of Oakington married an Alice Feeks of the parish of Lolworth - at Lolworth, on 24 May 1782.

They appear to have had at least the following children - all baptised at Oakington;

Joseph 1783
Stephen 1785
Thomas 1787
Mary 1789
Alice 1792
James 1795
Sarah 1800
Places of interest;
Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.

Sorry about the date. .... it's a wonder I can find anything.

Thanks for the info. I guess the occupation of Joseph is not recorded; pity. I wonder where/when he was born.
I have just found a burial for a Joseph Wilson, 1801 Oakington, but no mention of his age. Couldn't find Alice, although there is an Alice Feeks born 1762 in Oakington.

Well Alice Feeks is such an unusual name - and I see her parents were Stephen and Alice.

Joseph Wilson and Alice Feeks did name a son, Stephen - so there is a very good chance the Oakington baptism is her - but by the time of her marriage the family had moved to Lolworth OR Alice may have been working there.

There are other baptisms for children of Stephen Feeks and Alice, both in Oakington;

Thomas Feeks 1761
Mary Feeks 1765

I cannot immediately see a marriage for Stephen Feeks and Alice though (I can imagine the surname may have mistranscriptions!) I can't see their burials either I'm afraid.

Places of interest;
Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.

Yes, my gut feel is the name should be 'Weeks' or maybe 'Leeks'

I can't find a burial for Alice (1762) and Joseph's birth. It's usual to put their age on the burial record. I found Joseph died 1801, but still not really sure it's the correct one.

Actually there is a 'select marriage' on Ancestry for Stephen Feeks to Alice Langran on 25 June 1759 at Oakington.

So this is probably the marriage of Alice Feeks' parents.
