Where was Alexander born?

You say he married Elizabeth in “Patrick” - which country is that? Do you have the marriage certificate? I think most marriage certificates would name at least the bride and groom’s fathers.

You could also look for them in the census in whichever country they were born. You might find them with parents and siblings.

Righto I just found the marriage. In case it helps, it’s Partick not Patrick.

The marriage is on Scotland’s People, so if you register, and buy some credits you can buy the certificate - instant download - will help a lot as there are likely to be several Alexander Bells.

The 1911 census can be searched on Scotlands People too - you will need to use credits to view it.

There are many COLQUHOUN and BELL families on the censuses.

The marriage Cert will usually have his and her parents names, including mother's maiden name.

I don't think I've seen one yet from Scotlandspeople that doesn't.

You can buy a minimum of 30 credits from Scotlandspeople for around $14 Au (£7.5) by card online.

To purchase the marriage cert will cost 6 credits.

It’s very good value.

The marriage certificate is easy if you enter both names - onl6 one result.

You might have to be a bit more careful using credits to find the families on the 1911 Scottish census (if the families are in Scotland).

Colquhoun sounds like an Irish name so your trail may eventually head that way.  :)
