Was he in the military when he married?

This link is for applying for his military file.

He married my grandmother Elizabeth Sherman Colquhoun in Partick, Glasgow (1.12.1945  End of ww2) he had been previously married according to their marrige certificate, they had my father in 1947 in Ottawa, Canada. Been trying to find records of his travels but so far have had no luck.

Hi Hydes

Did your grandfather Alexander marry for a third time?

There is an obit here for Lois J Stewart, widow of Alexander Cecil Bell who died on 26 April 1998 www.icfo.info/biblio/icfo2766.pdf  This is from The Ottawa Citizen, 1 May 1998.

There is also another obit for Alexander Cecil Bell in the same publication: 10 Mar 1998 — Alexander Cecil Bell, age 95. Beloved husband of Lois J. Stewart....

This obit is showing on www.newspapers.com/newspage/465789549/  I don't have access to this site nor can I find a direct link to it elsewhere.

Have a read through these notes regarding following up on your grandfather's service files www.veterans.gc.ca/eng/remembrance/how-to-find-service-records

There are lots more links to help you further with this.

Mick has already provided you with lots of Family Search links for the family of Alexander. These are the marriage details for his parents in 1895 www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FMK8-VRT  Also here http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~maryc/lanark95.htm

Burial details here for parents www.findagrave.com/memorial/133573998/james-s.-bell

When you are ready to work back on his line, there is one main well researched family tree on A/try which includes lots of original sources/documents that is worth looking at www.ancestry.co.uk/family-tree/person/tree/85606649/person/312102203464/facts You need a subs to view it, not sure if you have this at present?

Not sure about the 3rd marriage of alexander cecil bell my father would never speak of his father I dont believe he was around after my dads birth in 1947. I do know that elizabeth sherman colquhoun was issued with a decree of divorse on 3 July 1956 ( i have a copy) and the where abouts of Alexander Cecil Bell was unknown
