What are the details showing for  Elizabeth Sherman Colquhoun from the 1945 marriage cert you have? In particular:

- her parents' names
- father's occupation
- Elizabeth's age when she married
- address showing for her
- witnesses' names

Hopefully this info will be helpful in finding her details  :)

Did Elizabeth come back to Glasgow following the breakdown of her marriage?

There is this death showing on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

Elizabeth Sherm. Colquhoun died at the age of 85 in 2009 in Glasgow
Other indexed surnames include BELL and MONTGOMERY.
Mother's maiden name Sherman.

I can only see one marriage on SP for Colquhoun and Sherman:

Alexander Colquhoun and Violet Sherman married 1923 in Scotstoun and Yoker, Glasgow. You can view the image of the marriage registration online as it is within the period where you can.

There is a birth, also in Scotstoun and Yoker, for an Elizabeth S Colquhoun in 1923. This is outside the period that you can view online and would need to be ordered (100yr closure for viewing births online).

Is this the second marriage for Elizabeth?

ELIZABETH SHERM. COLQUHOUN
and
NORMAN MONTGOMERY
1956
644/1 924
Provan

Elizabeth is also indexed for this marriage as Elizabeth Sherman Bell.

This is also outside the period that you can view online and would need to be ordered (75yr closure for viewing marriages online).

Does this fit with any of the facts you have?

There is this shipping manifest entry:

Elizabeth Bell age 26 (born c. 1923)
Port of Departure: Quebec, Canada
Arrival Date: 18 May 1949
Port of Arrival: London, England
Ports of Voyage: Quebec
Ship Name: Samaria
Shipping Line: Cunard Steamship Company Ltd

Travelling with her is a toddler (likely your dad?).

The address she gave for the UK was 1 Glen Crescent, Yoker, Glasgow. Yoker fits with what we have now for her.

The 1956 Electoral Rolls for Glasgow shows the following people living at 1 Glen Crescent, Yoker:

Alexander Colquhoun
Violet Colquhoun
Elizabeth Bell
William Colquhoun

Violet and Alexander Colquhoun must have lived there for a long time. They show in the electoral rolls at this address from at least 1938.

Violet Catherine COLQUHOUN/ SHERMAN died at the age of 71 in 1968 in Glasgow (ref 644/4 709).

You can view this image online. The rules for viewing death registrations online on SP are that the death took place more that 50 years ago.

You can see from this entry whether husband Alexander is still alive and do further searches with that info.

Sorry....a lot of posts all in a row  ::)

With the middle name of Catherine for Violet Sherman and her approximate birth year from her age at death (c. 1897-8), I think Violet's line might take you to Ireland.

There is this birth entry www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FBN6-73N in 1897 in Belfast. See birth cert here https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1897/02142/1813225.pdf If you haven't used the Irish BMD site before, free and easy to use. Just tick the 'I am not a robot' and add your name. You can then view and search on the site.

The Sherman family in 1911 www.census.nationalarchives.ie/reels/nai001394112/  Haven't found them in 1901 so far. ADDED: 1901 entry www.census.nationalarchives.ie/reels/nai003970520/

You should be able to check you have the right details in Ireland from Violet's marriage and death certs. Her parents' names will be included in both.

Monica

PS. Hopefully Alexander Colquhoun's details will get a little clearer with more information.
