Guess who found the policies!
« on: Saturday 05 March 22 15:52 GMT (UK) »
I'm going through the Calendar of Probate checking that I have details for all the people in my One Name Study.

In 1908, there are just three entries for DUNBABIN, all related.

James, who died in 1888, for £30, Administration to Arthur Knott, his son-in-law.

John,  who died in 1883, for £20, Administration to Arthur Knott, his brother-in-law.

Peter (John's brother) who died in 1883, for £21, Administration to the solicitor for Peter's widow.

Arthur's wife, Charlotte, died in 1904. Had she been keeping the family's assurance policy documents in a shoebox which Arthur started sorting out? Are those nice round numbers telling us something?

It is always interesting to find these odd situations in your research. It tells you a little bit about life in a time well over a century ago.
Looking at ALSTON in south Ribble area, ALSTEAD and DONBAVAND/DUNBABIN etc. everywhere, HOWCROFT and MARSH in Bolton and Westhoughton, PICKERING in the Whitehaven area.
