Help please identifying a heraldry crest
« on: Sunday 06 March 22 10:32 GMT (UK) »
I inherited a set of heavy silver spoons made by MORITZ AUGUST FICKERT, Dresden cirka 1870. There is a heraldry crest on each spoon - as shown on the enclosed photo - and so far I have not been able to identify it. Please help. Thank you!

Welcome to RootsChat! ;D

The coronet is showing 7 pearls - in the Holy Roman Empire this was indicative of a Freiherr (Baron).

Do you know from which country this came from?

Thank you. I would assume it was made in Dresden for someone in proximity. I imagine there were reputable silversmiths all over Europe and so such production might have been made more or less to a local ordering even in 1870. I have inherited it in Czechia.

The use of 2 shields usually denotes a married couple.

The lion/leopards on the right are defines as a leopard's face jessant-de-lys; described as  "A leopard's face affrontée, resting upon a fleur-de-lys, and having the lower part of the flower issuing from the animal's mouth".

I'm not strong on European Heraldry; not sure I can help further.
