Hockenhull & Lawe - Shoreditch marriage 1823
« on: Monday 07 March 22 10:35 GMT (UK) »
Is there anyway of finding out the birth dates of George Hockenhull & Sarah Lawe, who were married at St Leonard's, Shoreditch in 1823. Their parents/siblings names would be most helpful.

There was a Sarah 'Law' born on 31st August 1801 - and baptised in September - daughter of James and Elizabeth Law 'of Robertsons?'.

However the surname of Lawe can have several variations.

Do you have any idea from census records of apparant birth years?

In addition - what did they name their children, just in case the eldest son and daughter was named after their father and mother respectively?

Hello
The marriage is by licence 4 Sep 1823
George Hockenhall Steel of this parish ,bachelor and Sarah Lawe widow of Dovercourt Cty of Essex
wit Alexander Start ,Caroline M Ashmore,? Ashmore and Samuel Leigh.

Which does raise some questions as it is indexed as Hockenhull.

ps PCC Will of George Hockenhall Steel to wife Sarah 1843 and burial 18.1.1843 at St Mark Myddleton Square age 51 years.

Just found newspaper cutting of marriage
George Hockenhull Steel of Bank of England and Mrs Sarah Lawe of Harwich Essex widow of William Lawe esquire surgeon in his Maj Navy.

Bapt Woodchurch Cheshire George Hockenhull Steel s of Samuel and Catherine Steel clerk 25.7.1791 born May 30th

Possible first marriage for Sarah Knight at Harwich 10.9.1802 to William Lawes of Felixstowe.
Which gives a Baptism Sarah Knight d of Robert 5.9.1789 born 1777.

But does that fit with what you already have? Re Hockenhall/Steel?

Fantastic work. This really helps to explain many unanswered questions. Elizabeth Haste & Robert Knight were married 27.11.1766 at St. Nicholas, Harwich, Essex. They had 9 children. Susan was born, or baptised in 1783. Her sister, Ann, born 1788, married 1806, at Harwich, to Thomas Gane. Cannot thank you all enough.
