Is there any information on the form. Name, birthplace etc . There are usually several questions and answers and maybe several sheets with information.

Dear Haywood….I found William again on Fold3, it just states his record through the Royal Artillery, plus details of his marriage to Ellen…..I can not find any trace of William in Clavering…Any ideas?

Does it give address/job/next of kin before his marriage?
Is there anything about his discharge address?

As I said before, I think it could be that Abel signed up with a different name. It did happen.

Just to say, I don’t know anything about that site but make sure you have opted out of automatic renewal if you had to give card details.

Only next of kin was Ellen…..I saw no addresses..I did that photo shots of it all just in case you wanted to see, but not very good, I might go back and try again see if I can make them clearer, and then try to send to you through here, unless you want to send me your email address and I will send that way..

Dear Haywood..I tried sending you a document but it won’t let me…..I’ve been over all of William Thompson service records and come to the conclusion that this Ellen Donnelly is NOT the one I’m looking for…One-document states that William was still in service in 1893 with Ellen….I think she could be James Donnelly and Ally Hefferman daughter born in January 1864 in Kilkenny…

My Ellen surname is Donelly, NOT Donnelly…she was born August 1864 in Kilkenny..she also appears on the 1891 census with Abel Law in Clavering, Essex…..let me know what you think please 👍

Oh I am sorry. It all seemed to fit. I don’t know what to do now.

Just one thing though, spellings can vary so I would take that into account when you are looking for her.

What does the 1893 reference say? Are they living in Ireland?

Hello again….I do understand about the spellings of names and places, there was even Dannelly, unfortunately there is quite a few Ellen’s from the same part of Ireland…On the document it’s for William Thompson service history….it says 2 x service from home, 7th July 1881 -28th Feb 1887 and 1st March 1887 - 6th Jan 1893…Then further down it’s crossed out Father…James…Clavering..Bishops Stortford…Essex…and put wife Ellen with husband…further down it’s got Marriage….Ellen Donnelly…17th March 1885…. Kilkenny..that’s it….

I was born in Bishop Stortford 😁

It’s a shame it doesn’t seem to be the right Ellen, but that’s just my opinion, and I’ve got further ahead then before with your help…❤️

I am still unsure even though you have that other date.

I have just been searching around for possible births for William but the couple I found died in infancy.

So - is this where we are?

William Thomson - father James
Abel Law  - father James

Ellen Donnelly Law (ignore spelling I have just used that) born Kilkenny

Thompson/Donnelly marriage Kildare

No Law/Donnelly marriage yet

Son
James William Law born ‘Hilldere’  birthdate 23rd November 1887 (is that right for the year?)

James William Thompson born Kildare birthdate 23rd November 1886 - mother Ellen Donnelly
