Mental Hospital records
« on: Tuesday 08 March 22 16:12 GMT (UK) »
Posted earlier (can't find thread) about my efforts to get copies of my father's medical records from the time he was in a North Wales Mental Hospital. (an in-patient for periods between 1960 and 1976.)
Letter today saying that

'........confirm that records have been destroyed in line with National Retention and Destruction guidelines.'

I'm assuming that it's not just my father's records that have been destroyed but the whole lot from that period ???

I will write questioning this - anyone any thoughts ?

thanks.

Does anything in this link answer your query  :-\

https://www.england.nhs.uk/publication/corporate-records-retention-disposal-schedule-guidance/

thanks Rosie - as I understand it from the enclosed documents mental health records have to be kept for 20 years after 'last contact' or 10 years after death.

At least a record has to be kept of the destroyed records so hopefully I can get that information.

Last year the BBC did a historical article on the North Wales Counties Lunatic Asylum in Denbigh.
Among other things, it discusses the ECT therapy performed there:

Here's two previous articles from 2018 which mention the hospital's records, archives, and patient files:
