On the 1891 census we have Annie Pugh niece aged 14 born Chelsea; I'm assuming she is Sara's niece; perhaps we can see where she comes from.

Thanks All.  I did try to fine Annie Pugh the niece but didn't get anywhere.

Re birthplace for Sarah on nearly all Census's (one says Ireland)   they all give Wales as Birthplace.   My Mum seemed to think from family heresay that Dolgelly was  connection.

Just found out that Sarah Anne Pugh of Talyllyn remained unmarried in Merionethshire and died in 1929.

Thanks David, beginning to wonder if she was born in Wales but all the census’s including the 1921 say she was.  Very interesting piece Nestagi sent but that Sarah was still living at home with Mum in 1891 while my Sarah was in London, got 1891 census with my great grandmother on as a child.  Guess this is the Tallylyn one you refer to.

I don't know if this might be of significance, but in 1861, there is a Catherine Pugh in Dolgelley, born 1831, who has three children: Sarah and Ann, both born in London, and Evan in Dolgelley.

FindMyPast has her as a widow, although it looks like married changed to unmarried.

In 1871, she is Sarah Jane Pugh, born Middlesex in 1855.

There was a Sarah Jane Williams Pugh born in Lambeth (although Surrey) in 1855 with no mother's maiden name, and an Evan was born in Dolgelley in 1859, also with no mmn.

I was wondering if this might have caused the confusion about the birth place and the name of the father etc.

Yes David -saw those yesterday see my previous reply.   Jbrookma replied as follows:

but that Sarah was still living at home with Mum in 1891 while my Sarah was in London, got 1891 census with my great grandmother on as a child.

I can't seem to find her in 1891 - tried FindMyPast and A*.   Can you point me in the right direction

I keep picking at this - I agree that the hearsay must come from the fact that she lived in Dolgellau since being a young child and doesn't recall properly.

Possible for Sarah or is age out?

All b Dolgelly, Merionethshire
Piece: 4319, Folio: 56, Page Number: 11

1861 Dolgledr
John Jones   58 head, farmer
Mary Jones   48 wife
Cathrine Jones, 24 unmar, daughter
Sarah Pugh   2 granddaughter

Still with same family 1871 age 12

1841 has 3 daughters born to John & Mary. (Gain, Catherine, Laura) Maybe she was registered under Jones?

Any clues in her children names?

Just my thoughts

Sorry Nesta, I missed your post re 1861.

In 1891, Sarah is here: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QLCC-9MM

No problem  :D

I meant the 1891 census where Sarah J Pugh b. London was with her mother Catherine.

Thanks
