I’ve been looking more closely at the History of Wincanton book. From that, and from a tree on A***y it’s clear that there was a large and well-established Bracher extended family in Wincanton, some of whom were grocers (eg Thomas Bracher), soap boilers and tallow chandlers. What is strange is that there is no obvious family link to George Bracher. Is he the George Bracher of Salisbury who married Sarah Jukes in Upton Scudamore in 1815?

According to the death notices for his wife Sarah in December 1820, he was "of Wincanton" and "late of Salisbury"

Thanks, I can stop worrying about it now!

It seems quite a coincidence that he ended up in Wincanton surrounded by Brachers. Maybe they were distant relatives.
