William Debenham & Hannah Beeton - married 11 Nov 1837 Glemsford
« on: Friday 11 March 22 20:48 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,

I am on the look out for the father of William Debenham, born ca.1813 in Hartest, Suffolk.  He married Hannah Beeton in 1837.

I know I could get the certificate, but wondered whether there are any other records that may help before I do.  To say William Debenham is a distant 'relative' is an understatement (either father in law of 2nd cousin 5 times removed or uncle of wife of 2xGt Grandfather) so I am loathe to spend a lot out.  However, William will join the whole picture together after going right round the houses from another one of my 'step' lines.

Any help on this would be gratefully received.  A baptism would be helpful, too.

Many thanks,
Emma

There is only one plain William Debenham baptised Hartest around relevant period and that is the one born 13/12/1807, bp.27/12/1807, son of James Debenham and Hannah nee How.

In 1851 William states bc.1813, in 1861 bc.1811 and in 1871 bc.1806.

So, the above baptism would seem to be fit okay.

Thank you for this.  This would really help with the link.  It seems many of the ages were out at this time, particularly with this family!

Hi Emma

A copy of James Debenham's will would cost much less than a marriage certificate and could help to establish William's connection.

The probate service website has not been improved by a recent "upgrade" so you may have to search for DE BANK rather than DEBENHAM in 1870 to see page 110 and an order form.
