Have sent Nannyj a pm. He appears as Henry Curtis with 2 of his children in 1921 census in Lymington.

Think I have found William with his wife and 2 children in 1921.
Also Harry ‘Percy’ with George Curtis in 1891 in Lymington, which is where he ended up.
Thank you everyone 😊

I don’t have sub for findmypast so just paid for the transcription as it’s cheaper. It was publican at kings arms Lymington which ties in with what the family know about him,. His wife Kathleen’s parents were landlords of the chequers inn, also Lymington.

nannyj, this is possibly your Henry. His wife Kathleen died 1926 aged 50 in Lymington, Hants.

A possible remarriage for Henry W Curtis

Marriages Dec 1928

Barr    Daisy L    Curtis    Lymington    2b   1686
Cooper    Daisy L    Curtis    Lymington    2b   1686
CURTIS    Henry W    Cooper    Lymington    2b   1686
CURTIS    Henry W    Barr    Lymington    2b   1686

This couple appear on 1939 war register but his birthdate is transcribed as 4.8.1896 but with closer inspection I do not agree.

However, there's a death in 1947

GRO

Name:   Age at Death (in years):
CURTIS, HENRY  WILLIAM     71
GRO Reference: 1947  J Quarter in NEW FOREST  Volume 06B  Page 285

There is a probate record for this gentleman who died 4.4.1947 leaving his estate to Daisy Lily Curtis.

John

Added, just having read your last post then I believe this is your man.

That’s them! Thank you so much. All the name changes had me going round in circles. Just need to find his birth now to find his Dad … assuming he wasn’t illegitimate. Hopefully the marriage cert will help me … unless he says it’s George Curtis, of course! 🤷🏻‍♀️
Thanks again.

Ah … yes. But then I got confused, as Eliza gives Hughes as her name at marriage when it should be Pearce? Maybe she just never married Pearce? Although she gives herself as Pearce and widowed on the 1881 census.
