Dixon family
« Reply #9 on: Sunday 13 March 22 23:51 GMT (UK) »
Hello, everyone.
I've discovered that my Dixon family comes from Durham, and they were coal miners, I would like to learn more about them, and what were their job before they become coal miners, I also would like to know if there is any soldier in the family.

My grandfather was William Dixon, his father was also called William Dixon (born in 23/01/1890 in Sherbun, Durham) who was son of Joseph Dixon and Margaret Ellen Longstaff, they married in 1887.
My grandfather's mother was called Lilian Hunter (born in 23/01/1896, Durham).
My grandfather's parents married in 1915.

Do anyone of you have more information about their jobs, their military historic, and who was a coal miner and what was their jobs before it? Where they used to live? Thank you.

Francisco, if you have registered on FamilySearch as suggested in reply #4, you can search for your ancestors for free. You should be able to find their census records and birth, marriage and death records.
Do have a go. Most of the enjoyment is exploring for yourself, your family’s past.

To get you started here is a link to the 1911 census

And the 1901 census

Well, my father, Paul William Dixon , the one whose the ancestors I was looking for passed away in September of 2022 ( last year ), I could find my unknown brothers, and when we were talking about him, we discovered that he was adopted.
So, all those people discovered here aren't really my ancestors, but his adopted parents family, so I was wondering if there is any way to discover about his biological family, if you need any information just say it, thank you.

Francisco, you would need to start with where and when Paul William Dixon was born.
What does his birth documents say?
Milligan - Jardine – Glencross – Dinwoodie - Brown: (Dumfriesshire & Kirkcudbrightshire)
Clark – Faulds – Cuthbertson – Bryson – Wilson: (Ayrshire & Renfrewshire)
Neale – Cater – Kinder - Harrison: (Warwickshire & Queensland)

Munster: (Schleswig-Holstein & Queensland) and Plate: (Braunschweig, Neubruck & Queensland & New York)

Paul William Dixon was born 19 November 1959 I expect under another name.

His adoptive mother arrived back in England 22 November 1959, it would appear she knew the baby was due.

I would check if she had any sisters who may have had a child out of wedlock, or married and could not afford another child.
