I don't think it's contagious after all!
« on: Monday 14 March 22 01:30 GMT (UK) »
I just had coffee with a friend who said she was clearing out all her ancient accumulated rubbish for the annual council collection.

The photo albums full of "rubbishy postcards from a century ago".....

Well you can imagine me.... I gave her a very serious talking to and she has gone home and called me to say she's pulled them out of the bin.

I thought this sounded very positive until she explained that she  will open an online account to  sell them to "someone who may be interested" ::)

Just not catching the bug ;D

Looks like she caught the wrong bug.

"rubbishy postcards from a century ago"
Have you suggested to her that a Library or Museum be interested?

This is a good idea ;D
I once located a postcard from a family member in the keeping of the National Archives Australia.
Dated sometime mid WW1.
The Archives were not much interested in the words written on the card, but had cataloged it as a view of a main street in Sydney at that time.

I, of course, treasured the words. ;D

I will never know how it arrived in their collection.

Would she let you have them?  I would have pulled them out of her bin myself!

Perhaps Sue you should tell your friend that postcards are not just interesting but also newsworthy!

Hi Milliepede,
I did threaten a late night dumpster dive!

I don't really want to have the albums, rather I am encouraging her to see their value for her own descendants.  A sort of conversion exercise. ;D

I sent the link, Maddy, and she replied that hers were quite dull by comparison, but she is at least looking closely at them.

Which is better than the bin!
