Free New York City vital records
« on: Wednesday 16 March 22 14:01 GMT (UK) »
The NY City Municipal Archives has released a new website that will contain free copies of birth, marriage, and death records that are in their collection.  The website is here - https://a860-historicalvitalrecords.nyc.gov/?fbclid=IwAR2QHeKfcEQb1Dc2A1oJeo04knt3z-D76-1pR6KSKcGJSd3gPbysnjLIrbA

It seems the site is currently overloaded or not working properly and that all available records have not yet been indexed, but this should be a very helpful resource in the future.  The time frames that should be covered are:
Birth records, 1847-1849, 1853-1912
Marriage records, 1829-1949
Death records, 1795, 1802-1804, 1812-1948

Thanks for the heads up!  That's great news.  Along with the 1950 census, there's going to be a lot to look at in the next few months.
Wiltshire:  Banks, Taylor
Somerset:  Duddridge, Richards, Barnard, Pillinger
Gloucestershire:  Barnard, Marsh, Crossman
Bristol:  Banks, Duddridge, Barnard
Down:  Ennis, McGee
Wicklow:  Chapman, Pepper
Wigtownshire:  Logan, Conning
Wisconsin:  Ennis, Chapman, Logan, Ware
Maine:  Ware, Mitchell, Tarr, Davis

Thanks shellyesq!  I have just downloaded 2 original death certs for my ancestors, one from 1896 and another from 1918.
Robbins - Wolverhampton.
Spooner - Monmouthshire & Wolverhampton.
Warner & Loundes - Dudley/West Bromwich.
Dod(g)son - Heysham/Liverpool/Wolverhampton

It seems to be working smoothly but so far it's mostly just deaths and some marriages from Brooklyn [which is to say, Kings County].  I'm not finding any births in Brooklyn or any events outside of Brooklyn.

There are some inevitable glitches in the indexing - one death indexed as George H. Price but the certificate clearly says Charles H. Price and one marriage certificate incorrectly numbered.

How do I find the birth of Alice M. Terhune?

According to Italian Genealogical Group, "Some birth and marriage certificates may have a letter following the certificate number. An “S” means Special, and is an indication that the certificate has been corrected.   ...  There is no special film for the “S” and “D” certificates; they are in numerical order with all the others."

A search for Kings County 1901 certificate number 3618 yields the birth certificate of William Clarence Heinz.  Alice cannot be found under Terhune or any variant that I can discover.

The record number 3618 suggests that it was indexed not in 1901, but early 1902.
Regardless of which, I still cannot find it

Thanks. One of my aunts should be among them + perhaps her aunts. Also family of an aunt-by-marriage who emigrated from  Ireland via England in 19thC., had my aunt's father and then returned to England.
