TINKER family near Holmfirth
« on: Wednesday 16 March 22 14:25 GMT (UK) »
Arthur Tinker born 14 Nov  1869, in  Holmfirth, had 5 children. Harry in 1895, Annie in 1897, Clara in 1899 Herbert in 1901 and Harold in 1904, all in Holmfirth.
Unable to find a marriage in and around 1894 to a Jane, As I have 3 children on the 1901 census and all 5 on the 1911 version in Hinchcliffe Mill, Holmbridge along with a wife called Jane, to whom he has been married to for 17 years.
Any ideas where to find the marriage, please

regards

Keep in mind not all couples actually married so there isn't always one to find.

The children's birth registrations will have the mothers maiden name on the General Register Office index.  First step is look those up to see what surname we are looking for.

Well someone has corrected that 1901 census entry to "Arthur Tinker Lees"

There is an Arthur Lees marriage to Jane Clough 29 Apr 1893.

The marriage for son Harry in 1919 has his name as "Harry Tinker Lees"

Interesting to see that a witness to the 1893 marriage at Upperthong is Mary Emma Tinker.
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Hadn't spotted that but could be his sister

1881

Alfred Tinker 37 widower millwright
Arthur Tinker 11
Mary E Tinker 9

In 1871 Alfred is son in law of a Lees family

Alfred Tinker marriage to Ann Lees 16 Oct 1870.

So I wonder if young Arthur born before this belonged to Ann Lees hence the two surnames?
