Help to identify Regiment
« on: Saturday 03 September 05 21:38 BST (UK) »
Wonder if anyone could help identify regiment.  Uncle says he thinks my grandad was in the Royal Army Medical Corps, but others say Military Police.  Any thoughts anyone?  Thanks

I'm not 100% sure but I would say MP as RAMC did not carry weapons.
Correct me if I'm wrong anyone

Goughy, this photo might be a great one to post on the photo restoration board to see if anybody can try and hide the damage :)

Hi

Please post on photo restoration as it will be a challenge. I've given it a quick clean to show you what we can do. It needs alot more time spent on it and some patching.

thanks both.  I am in the long process of restoration of photo - just keen to identify regiment so I can trace his WWI medals.  I'll post the fruits of my labour on the retoration board.

Cheers

Definitely not the RAMC. The Military Police and its ancestors have used quite a series of badges but this looks very like the one used during the reign of George V - so WWI. The point about weaponry is already made.
Southern or Southan [Hereford , Monmouthshire & Glos], Jenkins, Meredith and Morgan [Monmouthshire and Glos.], Murrill, Damary, Damry, Ray, Lawrence [all Middx. & London], Nethway from Kenn or Yatton. Also Riley and Lyons in South Africa and Riley from St. Helena.

Could anyone explain the emblem on his stick?  (sincere apologies dont know military terms).  When picture is blown-up it looks square with a cross on it.  I have downloaded the picture as a negative as it shows more clearly, as does the cap badge?  Thanks
