Caversham baptism 1576
« on: Wednesday 16 March 22 18:54 GMT (UK) »
Hello!
I've been working on a profile for Alice Atkins (Stevens) on wikitree and I recently came across a birth date for her, without any source attached to it.  I know there's a cd/dvd with the records for St Peter's Parish at Caversham but I'm not sure about the starting year for those records. Would anyone be able to check if this baptism record for her exists or not? The date I have for her baptism is 14 October 1576 in Caversham Heights and her parents would have been Henry Atkins and Christiana Chase.
I thank you in advance for any information either confirming or denying the existence of these records. Thank you!

As per the Berkshire Record Office, registers for Caversham St Peter christenings begin c1597.

Thank you Hillhurst! Any idea if it there would be any other way to check a bap record that early? Maybe Bishop's Transcripts?

Family Search have this collection below. Interestingly this set is listed as part of Oxford (not Berkshire).

Bishop's transcripts for St. Peter's Church, Caversham, 1639-1859

You could always reach out to the Berkshire Record Office for further guidance regarding the availability of 16th century parish records (pre 1597).

Thank you! I've tried Family Search. I'll try asking the records office.

Thanks so much!
