Looks like he died intestate according to the medal roll.
As regard to his war gratuity he names no next of kin.

Thanks Jim1 that explains alot.
After reviewing 51 pages X 15 = 765 Soldiers on our Roll of Honour so far.
This is the first that has beaten me and looks as though his Age and Biography will remain Unknown

On the face of it it sounds like his family emigrated & he returned to fight.
He may have given a UK address if he was in lodgings & his medals were sent there
& returned by them.
Have you tried looking for him on the 1910 US census ?

It states he was in the charge of the County ie. an orphan.
I can't see him after 1910.
