Northamptonshire Wills
« on: Thursday 17 March 22 16:53 GMT (UK) »
My ancestor Thomas Goodrich, Wheelwright, Born about 1760 in Rothwell; married Elizabeth King in Gaulby, Leicestershire 1789; Died in Uppingham, 2 November Rutland 1837; I understand there is a Will somewhere but cannot find it.
I do hope someone can help me to locate it. Thank you for reading my request.

Who or what lends you to think there is a will?

Not quite sure where Northamptonshire comes in either?

Thank you very much for your reply.
I have a random note, not dated, indicating that a will is available somewhere. Not much help/hope. Because of the geographical siting I feel I have to try adjacent counties. As far as I can deduce, Thomas was born in Rothwell; his daughter Anne was born in Rothwell.
There is a cluster of Goodrich families in Foxton and various other nearby towns/villages in Leicestershire.
I’m clutching at straws but I have received some very helpful advice from Rootschat.

Looking at Ancestry, there’s a tree on there showing Thomas Goodrich with a Will dated 1846. And the place is given as Thorpe Achurch.
The Northants and Rutland Wills index on FindMyPast includes this Will, which on closer inspection turns out to be only an Admon, and probate was granted at Peterborough. There is no Thomas Goodrich buried in Thorpe Achurch, in any year at all.

This Admon will be held at the Northants Record Office, although whether this is the Will you have heard of, or whether it is anything to do with your Thomas, I have no idea!

Looking at the Index to Death Duty Registers, the reference to Thorpe Achurch appears to relate to the Administratrix, Anne Goodrich.

I have ordered an 1809 Rutland will from the Northamptonshire archives in the past, and they were very helpful and efficient.  The cost at the time was £10 and the file was sent via a download from We Transfer, although whether it would be worthwhile for an Administration is another question.

I looked at the 1846 will, but it seems to be a different person.

Death registered in Oundle in 1846

1841 Thorpe Achurch, Oundle, Northamptonshire
Thomas Goodrich b 1791 Northamptonshire
Anne Goodrich b 1811 Northamptonshire
Eleanor Goodrich b 1830 Northamptonshire
Eliza Rowlatt b 1821 Northamptonshire
Charles James b 1816 Northamptonshire

Thank you to all those who have replied to my post.
Yes to Prawn Cocktail, that was the one I had the random note about.
I'll close this now.
