Thomas Morgan of Llandybie, or was it David?
« on: Friday 18 March 22 18:53 GMT (UK) »
I am searching for the parents of the following children, said to be born on/near the Dubbison Estate, Glynhir, Llandybie. Somewhere named Dderifach is mentioned, but I’ve no idea what/where that is.  NB The DoB’s below are from obituaries & census records,

Rees Morgan: 1775-1873 (died in Palmyra, Portage, Ohio)
John Morgan: Dec 1779-1861 (died Gwernllwynchwith, Llansamlet)
Catherine Morgan: 1785-1852 (died Aberdare as Catherine Thomas, my direct line)
Ann Morgan: dates unknown, died young
Morgan Morgan: dates unknown, died young

Obituaries for John & Rees (in Welsh)
John: https://newspapers.library.wales/view/3194427/3194439/26/
Rees: https://www.rootschat.com/links/01rd6/

John’s obituary says his father was Thomas, but I can’t find any baptisms. There are baptisms that sort-of fit to parents David & Catherine (who most online trees have plumped for), but none are for a child named Rees.

I’ve found the Will of a Thomas Morgan of Llandybie 1736-1817 (proved 1818) mentioning the Dubbison family and his own late son, also named Thomas, but the children of the late son were Thomas & William.

Despite the long post I’m not really expecting any great breakthrough, but as I’m not very good at searching the National Library of Wales I’m hoping that perhaps there’s something I’ve missed that other RCer’s might find  ;D

Thank you, I was taking the place names from John's obituary.

Yes, they were non-conformist.  Rees was said to be Unitarian and John a Baptist.  Catherine was probably Baptist too.

Unfortunately not.  I saw a couple of possible marriages for Thomas, but nothing solid.

I was hoping that maybe there was a will somewhere I hadn't found, but that's definitely a case of hope over expectation  ;)
