DNA Jewish and Scottish conundrum
« on: Saturday 19 March 22 18:17 GMT (UK) »
I am 57percent Scottish mostly from my father  and 13percent jewish from my mother's maternal grandfather

I had a 32cm match to someone who is 50 percent Jewish and 25cm Scottish

Our shared matches show people who match my aunt's STEVENSON line in Lanarkshire.she doesn't show as a "shared match" between myself and my aunt as only matches my aunt's test by 8cm

She doesn't match my mother but does match one of my mother's Jewish cousin's and has a shared matches with her .

So Im guessing somewhere in the world one of my maternal Scottish ancestors hooked up with one of my Jewish ancestors ( some did emigrate via Scotland in the 1880.s)

How far back would this have to be ?
+ Should I assume the connection is stronger to my Scottish side as she does not match my mother or male cousin on her side at all .

Does anyone have similar conundrums ?.

I'm looking at mutual matches of mutual matches and finding connections to Quebec on the Scottish side
Possibly via surnames MALLETTE + BLAIR

ive spent several hours looking at dna matches with MALLET MALLETT MALETTE most are distant matches but there is a definite Quebec connection and i have a few marriages to people with scottish origins but i think the matches are too small

what i have noticed is that my MALLETT matches do not match my mother or my paternal aunt
which reinforces my idea that ive inherited a bit from both sides .

Ha ha

Had to scrap all that research as my match is actually to her husband s dNA attached to same tree

His side is locked for the moment but it looks like the surnames we should actually be looking at from shared RAMSEY STEVENSON + WEINBERG LANDSMAN
