Under Media > External Evidence  >  Iolaire Disaster  see entry #31

I hope Sandra can get clarification from The CWGC  :)

I've split the quote into 2 parts (my notes in blue)...

Commonwealth War Graves Commission are appealing for relatives of
Seaman J Macleod
Royal Naval Reserve - 5415 A
died 1/2/1919
buried Eye Cemetery (Or Aignish Burial Ground), Isle Of Lewis.

If this is the person requested, name & service no; he'd be 27 on death...

MacLeod, John
Place of Birth: Knock, Stornoway
Number: A 5415 (a bit of a variance - 5415 A above)
Date of Birth: 12 April 1891

Parents are William & Christina

He also had a sister Miss D MacLeod (from the record in the link below)

https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/D8463851

There is an entry on FIND A GRAVE but in the written description death date and service no do not agree !!

https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/159336798/john-macleod

The added info. is someone completely different, John MACDONALD not John MacLeod  ???

It's possibly been a genuine error, I don't know who adds the notes but the only ref. is to who adds photos?

This is the same William that I referred to last night.  Date of birth: 12 April 1891 date of death: 1 Feb 1919.
Parents' address - 19 Knock Point, Stornoway

The Marine Returns record is different from the info you have from the CWGC  Father was a William MacLeod.

From where did the initial information come from, Sandra?

There is a Stornoway Historical Soc Group on Facebook

https://en-gb.facebook.com/pg/stornowayhistorical/posts/

It might be worth contacting them for info about relatives. I've found these local groups very helpful over the years.
