I am obviously missing something; I've been using FindMyPast for some years but I can't find the 'images' you mention. I can get a transcript and I can view the original, but all that gives me is:-

Spenceley     John    Ripon     9a 83

Where's the 'image'?

Who put it there?

A valuable lesson. Post-1837, I rarely, if ever, look anywhere other than in Civil Records and bemoan the lack of all the extra details contained in Parish Records. For the sake of a few extra key-strokes, it's obviously well worth searching both.

Thank you.

Ladyhawk,

I've never found the death of Sarah SPENCELEY. However, I have found:-

Sarah SPENCER, b 1835, d Q4 1882, Dewsbury

I think this is John's wife; there are too many coincidences for it to be someone else - everything fits perfectly apart from the last few letters of her surname.

This would certainly release him for a subsequent marriage in 1887.

Is this death entry a possibility?

That looks a much better item than my suggestion, especially as the name is 100% correct.

Just looked on FindMyPast. Their transcript gives her age at death as 68, i.e. born in 1818, a difference of 14 years. How do we reconcile that?

GRO site gives age as 54 so you would have to buy the death certificate to see who is right - FindMyPast or the GRO.
