location of Woods Churchyard - near Magherafelt ?
« on: Friday 25 March 22 09:52 GMT (UK) »
Dear fellow researchers - I am having difficulty in finding information about my WHITE family. They (sons and daughters of James White (1791 - 1875) and Hannah Galley 1796 - 1881) are in Donegal, but there are many other placenames such as Magherfelt and Ballymultrea and Calhane. A son, James White was buried at "Woods Churchyard" - can anyone tell me where that is?
The White Family were farmers.
Joyce & Black in Armagh/Down; Clarkson in Hull, East Riding; Paxton in Hull, Yorkshire; Lodge in Huddersfield and Liverpool; Shaw in Caistor, Lincolnshire; Noncon and Pope in London.

Firstly it's Magherafelt and no place name comes up for Calhane - where did you find it?

Ballymultrea townland is south of the village of Ballyronan.

This might be the "Woods Churchyard" that you are asking about. Have a look at this map.

The green square area on the right of the Ballyronan Road (top of map) NW of Ballyronan. Click in a couple of times and pan down to see its exact location.

"Woods Churchyard" might be Woods Chapel

Where are you finding these place names?

Calhane might be Calhame?

The following isn't the family in question, but simply as confirmation on where Woods Churchyard is, note the following from the Mid-Ulster Mail of 8 May 1915:

ARMSTRONG - May 1, at her residence, 47 Donegal Avenue, Belfast, Mary, widow of the late John Armstrong, Ballyronan, Co. Derry. Interred in the family burying ground, Woods Churchyard, on Tuesday.
