James Hume
« on: Saturday 26 March 22 15:10 GMT (UK) »
Hi

Looking for any evidence of a James Hume, born in 'Cowcaddens', Glasgow, Lanarkshire around 1840.

He married Ann Harker in Gateshead during the December quarter of 1868.
The couple had six children;
James born 1869
Margaret born 1871 died 1873
William born 1873
Margaret Hannah born 1876
Twins John Robert and Thomas born and died 1880.
The 1871 and 1881 census finds the family living in Heworth, Gateshead, where James gave his place of birth as 'Scotland' - occupation a coal miner.

Ann Hume died in Sunderland 1883, and James remarried there the same year to a widow, Mary Ann Harbin (nee Trewfoot).
The pair lived in George Street, Tunstall and can be found there in 1891 and 1901 where James gives his place of birth in 1891 as 'Cowcaddens' Lanarkshire, and in 1901, as Glasgow, Lanarkshire.

I have no idea of who his parents were - haven't seen any marriage certificates. Can anybody find him in 1841, 1851 or 1861??

Thanks
Sue

Have you checked the OPR's on Scotlands People?

No match on the Scottish 1841/51 in Lanarkshire but there are entries for his name/birthyear in other counties of Scotland

Might be a good idea to get one then at least you would (hopefully) have the name and occupation of his father plus witness names to go on.

Yes, was thinking I may have to bite the bullet and get one!

Have checked Scotland's People - nothing that stands out in the area, baptisms or census.
